The importance of regulation in decarbonising our economy, local gatherings, etc ...

Dear Climate Majority,

While our campaigns keep brewing, we wanted to share initiatives and opportunities for some climate majority action, as well as recent of engagements of our own: attending Anthropy, a GBN debate with Nigel Farage (addressing issues such as Net Zero, insulation, and energy bills), volunteer opportunities, and more.

Anthropy

CMP was present at Anthropy this year and there was a lot of interest in the work we are doing. Most importantly, we shared the latest update on the Business campaign that will be a central focus of our work in the coming year. The campaign seeks to get business itself to lead on lobbying for a regulatory and policy environment that will be eco-logical and argue that such regulation and policy is critically needed for the UK economy to align with the Paris agreement.

Raising this at Anthrophy was important as one of the immediate objectives of this work is to get the importance of regulation and policy in decarbonising our economy on the agenda of similar business-focused conferences and out in the public domain. If you would like to hear more and/or volunteer to be involved in this, please get in touch with us at [email protected] (attention: Helena Farstad).

An increasingly polarised political environment makes it difficult to agree on pragmatic steps towards mitigation and adaptation. The Climate Majority Project is working to depolarise the conversation, so that we can agree on minimum viable answers about real steps towards a serious mainstream climate response.

This interview between Rupert Read and historically highly-conservative and -divisive Nigel Farage on GBN gestures in this direction. Amongst other topics, energy crisis and fuel poverty were touched upon. Let us know if you have thoughts or reactions… How did you find this experiment?

Volunteer Opportunities

  • If you live in Yorkshire, Manchester, or South Wales, there are people in our networks organising initiatives in the area which will require 30 minutes of your time and basic computer skills…

  • If you have wordpress development skills and would like to support the Climate Majority project…

  • If you have good analytical skills, more than a Bachelors’ degree, and would like to be involved in research and assistance for the Business Campaign

…and are interested in getting involved, please contact [email protected]

People are organising Candlelit Gatherings to come together as communities and hold the adversities there have already been and will be in our changing world, honouring the people who have already lost their lives due to anomalous weather. You too can invite people in your community to come together for 20 minutes at 8pm on Saturday 11th November. Please spread the news.
